Mother's Day May 9,2010

When i reflect on the conveniences I have as a mother and remember the widows in Mgona,Njewa and Kawale,Malawi... it makes my heart hurt.
Why am i here and they in Malawi? How would i feel if I knew when i went to bed at night that there is no food in my hut to feed my children in the morning? What lengths would i go to , to provide them with at least one meal a day? How would i feel if my 6 year old daughter had to walk miles to fetch water for the day and i knew the path held danger - wild animals, men, vehicles - yet there was nothing I could do to change the situation? Water is a daily necessity.
As I read "The Hole in the Gospel" my responsibility to the poor, the widows and the orphans becomes a growing passion for which i seek opportunities to express at home and abroad.
Lord, may i always remember that with privilege comes responsibility. I'm grateful for the opportunities you grant to return to Malawi, to advocate on the behalf of the widows and orphans and hopefully engage others who will become advocates.
